Student Application

Dear Prospective Student:

Thank you for your interest in New Seasons Youth Program. We are excited that you have chosen to visit our website. New Seasons is a new, innovative way for academically gifted and talented youth and young adults from Africa and the Caribbean to connect with American colleges and universities.

Our aim is to act as a conduit, or academic recruiting agency, for those students who have a desire to study abroad here in America and for American Tertiary Institutions that seek-out academically gifted and talented international Students.

If you are a high school graduate and meet the following qualifications listed below, then we are happy to assist you:

1. Academic Excellence:  To qualify, each participant must have expressed a sincere desire for assistance.  Each student must have maintained at least a B average (based on national examination results).
2. Leadership:  Each student must have demonstrated leadership skills within the school and community in which they live, and affiliated with a local church.
3. Documented Need:  Each student must come from a severely disadvantaged background.  The student must be orphaned or the parents are not financially able to pay for the tuition fees of their child due to extenuating circumstances.
4. Age Restriction: All applicants to the program must be 24 years of age or younger by the application deadline of each calendar year. 

Each potential candidate of the New Season’s program will be chosen through a rigorous, competitive process in which each candidate must submit an essay detailing their intended field of study, a brief biography and why he/she should be selected. Each perspective candidate must submit a high school diploma or equivalent, an academic transcript evaluation and three letters of recommendation of character, leadership abilities and other accomplishments. The SAT international test (Minimum Combined Test Score 1200), TOEFL (optional), resume and other tests also may be submitted for consideration. Students with a High School GPA of at least 3.75 may apply without the SATs. Only those selected candidates who meet the minimum requirements will be contacted by letter and/or telephone for further interviews & instructions with the New Season’s regional program coordinator. 

Participants who are recruited through our program by an American college or University may receive free airfare and ground transportation to the city of their college or university. All fees associated with VISA, passport and college applications will be covered by New Seasons. Each student will be provided with clothing and incidental stipends to assist them in buying the appropriate clothing for the climate in which they will be living and to provide them with the basic necessities they will need for dormitory life. Each New Season’s participant will be assigned a host family who will assist each participant in making a smooth transition into American culture. Each host family will act as a surrogate family to each participant while they are in the states attending college. Each family will be asked to spend quality time with the participants. Ways of spending time may include having dinner together and spending Holidays and going to church together throughout the year.

Each New Seasons participant will be paired with a host church.  Each church will commit to providing spiritual growth and offer support for any needs the participant may have.  Each participant will be encouraged to actively participate within the ministry of the host church and volunteer his or her time.
